  • A full grown adult male chimpanzee can weigh from 75-155 pounds and stands 3-4 ft tall, while a female weighs 57-110 pounds and stands 2-3.5 ft tall.
  • Chimpanzees rarely live past the age of 40 in the wild, but have been known to reach the age of 60 in captivity.
  • A Chimpanzee named Cheeta who starred in the 1930s and 40s versions of Tarzan is still alive at the age of 74.
  • The orangutan is an official state animal of Sabah in Malaysia.
  • The word orangutan is derived from the Malay orang hutan meaning man of the forest, although local people do not use this term to refer to orangutans.
