A group of monkeys may be referred to as a mission
of monkeys or a tribe of monkeys.
- The name "monkey" may come from a German
version of the Reynard the Fox fable, published in around 1580
- New World monkeys form monogomous pair bonds
- Most monkeys have prehensile tails, which can act
as a "fifth hand" (full) or aid solely in dangling from objects
(partial) . The term prehensile literally means "able to grasp"
- Capuchin monkeys have only partially prehensile
tails.
- Marmosets & tamarins – both New World
monkeys – don’t have prehensile tails.
- Natasha is the name of a macaque that has become
well known because, unlike other macaques who move by alternating
between walking upright and on all four limbs, Natasha
walks upright all the time, since suffering from a stomach flu
that almost killed her.
