Keep these fun facts and tips handy for when you meet a FWC officer:

  • Within the Florida Everglades, FWC officers manage camps with funny names such as No-tell Motel, Big Daddy, Possum Head, and Mosquito Lagoon.
  • The garage of Bea Humphries, founder of the SPCA Wildlife Care Center in Ft. Lauderdale, served as the area's first wildlife rehabilitation shelter.
  • What has four legs, wears a badge and loves Florida? An FWC canine officer! Specially trained dogs assist their human partners in locating wanted, missing or lost persons. These furry friends even help officers detect specific fish and wildlife.
  • Come sail with me! Florida leads the nation in boaters with just over 1 million registered vessels. Everyday, hundreds of unsung heroes patrol the state’s waterways and protect its aquatic creatures.
  • Forget the British, the babies are coming! The babies are coming! Each spring wildlife shelters receive and treat an influx of newborn animals that have been orphaned or abandoned.
